My advice to current medical students would be: Ask questions, never
stop learning. Enjoy the journey and pay forward by sharing in educating
future physicians and healthcare professionals.
Additional Comments: It’s been a great ride so far.

My most memorable moment from medical school: My fondest
memories: inner tube water polo; co-ed soccer; volleyball in the
“hangers”; the sound of a spoon hitting the side of a cereal bowl during
early morning lectures in Meiling (who was that?); and Saturdays at the
student union eating Mark Pi’s fried rice during study marathons. Drawing
midnight neutropenia/fever cultures in the “old James” when it was new
(and having to run them down to put them in the incubator). Transporting
patients to radiology to get an urgent chest X-ray, “clocking” the patient
in under the glaring eye of a staff member (why did the date/time
stamp always come out crooked?). X-ray rounds on the second floor
with radiologists who were always willing to answer questions. Going
to the lab with Dr. Earl Metz to look at blood smears! During surgery,
not remembering the name of the artery that goes to the appendix
(yes, it’s the appendiceal artery!). Being so sleep deprived on surgery
that I kept misspeaking when I presented the post-op follow-up of the
patient following “penile transplant” (Oops — I meant IMPLANT! Still no
transplant donors, as the urologist kept reminding me).
